Cottons Hotel & Spa recently invited me to experience one of their spa days with sparkling afternoon tea. I had never been on a spa day before so was very excited to go along! My husband was only too happy to accompany me so, leaving the children with some kind family members, we set off for our first “day date” in 3 years!!
We arrived bright and early and were greeted by the friendly staff and given our robes to change into. After a quick cup of tea and signing some forms we headed for our treatments, which we had chosen in advance. They were “taster” treatments so lasted 25 minutes, and we both opted for a Caudalie Des Vignes back massage. This was wonderfully relaxing; I almost fell asleep with the calming music, gentle massage and sweet smelling oil being rubbed into my back!
Feeling revitalised, we collected another cup of tea and went to sit in the relaxation room, to enjoy some precious time relaxing on loungers and having a conversation uninterrupted by little voices!
Next we headed to the pool facilities which were one of the highlights of the experience. These have been renovated fairly recently and are really stunning. We sat for a while in the outdoor hot tub enjoying the sunshine – bliss!! There were loungers both outside and inside the pool area which would have been great for lying down to read a book.
We tried out the steam room and sauna very briefly (I’m a hot mess after about 10 seconds but other people did seem to be enjoying it!!) before heading for a swim in the pool. The water is really warm; it’s so nice to get into a pool without the initial shock of cool water!!
We then headed back to the spa through the pool changing area (which looked wonderful – they even have hair straighteners and spinners to dry your costume!!) to get ready for our afternoon tea.
The afternoon tea is served in the hotel’s main restaurant. I have actually been before with my son for Easter afternoon tea, but it was great to be back for a more grown up version including a glass of prosecco!
Along with the fizz we enjoyed loose leaf tea, a selection of sandwiches, cheese and red onion tartlet, scone with clotted cream and jam, fruit loaf (the best I’ve ever had in fact, a surprising star of the show!), macaroons, cheescake shot and chocolate tart. It was presented beautifully and all tasted delicious!
We had a wonderfully relaxing time, and it was great to go on a date different to the usual dinner out. I’d imagine it would be a perfect mother/daughter treat or nice way to catch up with some girl friends too! The facilities, especially the new pool area, were really lovely, and the afternoon tea was a great end to our day!
