We went to…Riverside Organic

We’ve been meaning to go to Riverside Organic for so long. One sunny Saturday morning we finally made it!

Riverside Organic is a farm near Davenham, about 15 mins from Knutsford. It has a café, some animals, a play area and a farm shop and is home to Crafting & Casting Corner (more on this later!) They also run Farm Tots during the week, a playgroup for 2-5 year olds and Tiny Farm Tots for under 2s.

On arrival we were immediately wowed by the wonderful view of rolling countryside. It’s free to enter the farm, and just the right size for an explore with two preschoolers.

The animals we saw included sheep, chickens, pigs, guinea pigs, goats, and our highlight, some gorgeous calves!! We noticed later on that you could even buy some animal feed in the shop as well.

We were also lucky enough to be invited by the lovely Jess to try some imprinting at Crafting & Casting Corner. This is a workshop on the farm which runs sessions for children and adults to do art and craft activities. There’s an after school art club for over 7s, hand/imprinting services for babies or older kids (by appointment only), adult classes and lots more. They have some great ideas for Father’s Day gifts (personalised mugs with handprints etc) if you’re looking for inspiration!

Jess was really friendly and immediately put the children at ease. They did hand prints (which she was later going to turn into the cute unicorn and dinosaur shown below!) and then got to paint some ornaments. It was the first time my 1 and 3 year old had done anything like this and they really enjoyed it, especially the 3 year old who was so proud of what he’d made!

After another explore of the animals (and one of the owners showing us some baby guinea pigs – everyone was so friendly!) we headed to the café for some lunch. There were seats outside with wonderful views but we were starting to get chilly so opted for inside! There was lots of reasonably priced tasty sounding food on the menu. We chose breakfast brioches with bacon and sausage from the farm shop – delicious!! The kids were in good spirits after their fun morning but if they’d needed diverting there was a box of books and toys to entertain them.

We’d already had so much fun we forgot about the play area and headed home, but it looked like it could have occupied the kids for a while, with ride ons, a seesaw, little house etc. There were even some tables in the enclosed play area so you could sit and have a tea while the kids played – always a bonus!

I’m not sure why it’s taken so long for us to visit but we will definitely go back soon. It made a lovely morning out for the kids and adults alike!!

If you’re thinking of visiting, this Sunday is the perfect opportunity as they are holding their Open Farm Sunday which will include: free entry to the farm, bottle feeding, tractor & trailer rides, craft demos, paint a pot, meet the animals and a barbecue. The café will also be open selling homemade cakes & sandwiches and there will be Snugburys ice cream for sale too! Click here for more details.
